Here visitors from all over the world come to get up close and personal with the Addo elephants as well as the other game in the malaria-free environment of the park. A couple of years ago the first lions were introduced into the park, making it a Big Five attraction.
The park is undergoing massive enlargement which will in due course make it a Big Seven park, in other words including the great white shark and the southern right whale.
Just forty minutes' drive from Addo is the city of Port Elizabeth. Here are to be found numerous attractions to interest the visitor. For the historically minded there is much to see in the way of monuments, museums and period architecture, including some fine Regency buildings.
For the sportsman there are excellent facilities for participating in or watching practically all sports, whether on the land, sea or air.
Long stretches of white beach and warm sea invite visitors to relax in the sun while beautiful parks and nature reserves invite one to take a healthy walk in pleasant surroundings.
For the more sedentary, there are numerous cinemas, good shopping malls, restaurants and a casino complex.
